What it means to be a HALO intern

December 2015

If you’re familiar with the HALO Foundation, you’ll know we’re all about changing lives. Normally when we say that, we mean changing the lives of at-risk youth around the world. But sometimes we also change the lives of bright college students in the Kansas City area.

Every semester, HALO offers internships in everything from programming to accounting. While the positions are designed to get things done at HALO, they can also be transformative. But don’t just take it from us. Our past interns will be the first to tell you how meaningful a HALO internship can be.

“When I first found out about HALO, I thought that it seemed like the kind of organization that I wanted to support,” Heather Mitchell, a former accounting intern with HALO, said. “I never imagined that I would be able to give to such a meaningful cause and gain knowledge in the field I was pursuing at the same time.”

Not only did Heather’s internship help HALO reach its mission to empower youth in the greatest need, but she has gone on to do great things herself! Post-internship, Heather finished her Masters of Accounting and accepted a position at the world’s fifth largest international accounting firm.

Kacey Lundy, a former HALO Learning Center intern, also experienced the transformative power of a HALO internship.

“It’s not every day that you’re fortunate enough to have an internship that allows you to take the initiative on projects, but still provides necessary support and encouragement,” Kacey said.
